AnxietyBehindTheBadge.com Isn't selling a Magic Bullet for Anxiety OR Depression

Wish there was a magic bullet for your anxiety and / or depression? So do we… so… do… we.

Greetings to the great followers of AnxietyBehindTheBadge!

My name is R.G. Riles and as of today, I am a guest-blogger on Leo’s terrific website.  My qualifications?  Well, I’m a 33-year old civil engineer, marketing and advertising guru, mediocre musician, promising voice over talent, somewhat-skilled writer, aspiring author, and 15-year Anxiety Sufferer.  My official diagnosis?  No, it’s not “TakeOnTooMuchAtOnce-itus”… though the number of endeavors I’m currently juggling is quite likely at least a symptom of my disease, or perhaps a cause of my disease, or, more likely, both.  Chicken before the egg, right?

Anxiety - Symptoms and Causes - one in the same, but which came first?

Did Anxiety or Depression Cause your Systems? Or did habits create Symptoms which Created your Anxiety or Depression?

Well, much like you, the reader, my diagnosis probably came after way too many visits to the ER, and way too many months (or years) of seeing various doctors.  My diagnosis is General Anxiety Disorder (GAD).  I’m prone to panic attacks.  But, enough about me for today.  You’ll get to know more about my story as we go.  For now, please just know that I am a friend of Leo’s, that I will be contributing from time to time to this blog and website, and that I’m, more or less, the acting editor for AnxietyBehindTheBadge.com.

Today’s question is simple:

What do you think came first in your life?  The Anxiety?  The Depression?  Both?  Or have you accumulated habits, lifestyle tendencies, thought patterns, etc. which generated symptoms over time, which then morphed into a full blown dysfunction and/or illness?

Leo and I will provide our answers in next week’s post and possibly in responses to your comments this week.  Reader participation is a huge part of our vision here.  We can only share and help with so many people within our circles.  Your feedback, your comments, your responses… they help us to reach a much greater circle, which essentially means you get to participate in helping others learn to cope and find the resources they need!

We’ll be quoting some of the more thoughtful responses in next week’s blog.  We can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

On a personal note, I want to thank Leo for letting me be part of something I feel is not only honorable, but something which transcends our personal lives, stories and connections, and has the potential to help many – something much greater than ourselves.  Working together, we do believe we can help many – be they officers, or civilians.

All the best.
